Bremen made it look easy against Gordon Lee on Friday night, scoring early and often in the first half on the way to a comfortable 41-0 victory that moved it into a tie with Bowdon at the top of Region 6-A with a 4-0 region mark.

The Blue Devils (7-1, 4-0 Region 6-A) scored two touchdowns in the game’s first 2:39 to take a quick 14-0 lead, first striking on a 66-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Clayton McIntosh on their second play from scrimmage.

“Our line definitely opened that up for me, you know. There wasn’t nothing special about it. We just ran it right at them,” McIntosh said. “And there was a hole, so I took it and made the play.”
The second score came on a 3-yard touchdown scamper by McIntosh four plays after senior Kail Singleton intercepted Trojans quarterback Josh Weller on Gordon Lee’s first play from scrimmage.

With such a fast start, McIntosh said his team set the tone for the game.

“I think it took the breath out of them, you know. They came in pretty pumped up, ready to go,” McIntosh said. “And then we made a few big plays on ’em and just took the life out of ’em early.”
McIntosh later pushed the margin to 20-0 on a 46-yard touchdown run with 9:22 remaining in the second quarter, capping a nine-play, 95-yard drive for Bremen.

Blue Devil coach Ricky Tolleson said he was impressed with how well his offensive line blocked and how McIntosh in particular was able to benefit from the solid blocking.

“Our line of scrimmage just took control of the ball game,” Tolleson said.
Following a fumble by the Blue Devils as they tried to run out the first half clock with 2.8 seconds left, the Trojans (4-4, 2-2 Region 6-A) quickly lined up and threw the ball toward the end zone. But senior Cal Hardie picked off Weller’s desperation pass and ran it back 99 yards for a score, putting an exclamation point on a dominating first half for Bremen and effectively erasing the memory of two long but unsuccessful drives by Gordon Lee late in the half.

After penalties on the Blue Devils, Will Rego nailed a 31-yard extra point to cap a 27-0 opening half for the home team, leaving little in doubt but the final margin.

McIntosh ran five times for 130 yards and the three scores in the first half.
Bremen added two scores, touchdown runs by Christian Prichard and Spencer Ward, in the second half for the final margin, and a late interception by junior Alex Eriquezzo on the Blue Devil 1-yard line preserved the shutout, which was the team’s second straight. Bremen has surrendered a mere 12 points in its past five games.

“Our defense has gotten better and better each week,” Tolleson said. “We’ve had some injuries, and we’ve had some young kids that have stepped up to the plate.”
